Balanced School Day
Hampstead School was given the approval from the province of Manitoba and the ÌÇÐÄVlog Board of Trustees to launch the balanced school day schedule in September 2025.
What is the difference between a traditional school schedule and a balanced school day schedule?
- The start and end of the day does not change. It is simply how and when breaks are taken to allow for greater physical activity and more balanced nutrition.
- There are three blocks of instructional time (120 minutes / 90 minutes / 90 minutes)
- There are two wellness / nutrition breaks; two longer breaks instead of two short breaks and one long break
- One 30 minute break -The first movement break: 10:55-11:25 with a nutrition time adjacent
- One 55 minute break –The second break: 12:55-1:20 (nutrition); 1:20-1:55 (wellness)
What are the advantages of the balanced school day?
- More instructional time with fewer interruptions
- More equally distributed nutrition breaks to improve student concentration
- More opportunities for uninterrupted play and quality exercise
- Less transitions for children - an extended period of play rather than spending time dressing and undressing in the winter months
- Opportunities for clubs and activities during the school day
